FIELD FLEET AND VEHICLE SAFETY CHECKLIST
1. Daily Vehicle Pre-Start Inspection (B.O.W.A.S.)
- Battery: Check for tight terminal connections, cleanliness, and clean mounting brackets.
- Oil & Fluids: Verify proper levels for engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, and windshield washer fluid.
- Water & Belts: Inspect radiator water levels and check drive belts for cracks or improper tension.
- Air & Tires: Check tire pressure (including the spare tire) and ensure lug nuts are tight with visible tread.
- Signal Lights: Test all headlights, brake lights, hazard pointers, and reverse warning alarms.
2. On-Board Safety & Emergency Equipment
- Fire Extinguisher: Confirm a fully charged, unexpired ABC dry chemical extinguisher is mounted securely inside the cab.
- First Aid Kit: Verify the vehicle's medical kit is fully stocked with bandages, antiseptics, and burn creams.
- Reflective Triangles: Ensure at least two early warning device (EWD) triangles are present under or behind the seats.
- Basic Tool Kit: Check for standard emergency tools including a hydraulic jack, tire wrench, and jumper cables.
3. Ladder Rack & Cargo Security
- Rack Mounting: Inspect heavy-duty roof rack bolts to ensure zero movement before loading ladders.
- Tie-Down Straps: Use heavy-duty ratchet straps to secure extension ladders; do not use weak ropes or wires.
- Cargo Netting: Secure loose materials, splice enclosures, and fiber drop coils inside the trunk using cargo nets.
